Artsplorers is edited by Cristin Kelly – former dramaturg, mother to two feisty little artsplorer girls, coffee appreciator, and – just between us – believer that glitter is particularly divine when enjoyed at playgroup.
She thinks it’s a slice of real life magic when kids get engaged with the arts – either as spectators or participants – and created this page as a place to explore the many ways we can spread that pixie dust into our children’s lives.
Cristin moved to Sydney from the United States in 2010, and she and her husband added their “AusMerican” daughters to the wayward clan in 2013 and 2017.
She has a BFA in Arts Management from Brenau University and an MFA in Dramaturgy & Theatre Criticism from Brooklyn College. Her work included stints at regional theatres and Off-Broadway, as well as 3 years as Literary Manager at Florida Studio Theatre. At FST, she also conducted playwriting workshops for students across the state, and taught Playmaking at Ringling College of Art and Design.
After the big move across the ocean, Cristin undertook the, perhaps foolhardy, “100 Australian Plays in 100 Days” project, interviewed playwrights for the Australian Theatre Writers Project, and was a mentor for the Queen Street Studios Play, Me development program. She also served as Communications Officer for the Royal Australian Historical Society.
Co-conspiring on Artsplorer adventures is her primary school aged daughter, who also loves nature and netball, and her pre-schooler, who is partial to tutus and fairies.
