Do you listen to children’s music? If not … what?! Why not?!
You may know that we are big cheerleaders of music for children and families, and particularly love to shout out the thriving kid’s music scene in Australia. (See the children’s album review series I ran from 2018 – 2020 to see where I’m coming from). I have decided to pick up this initiative in a more bite-sized capacity with a new “Song of the Week” series over on Instagram.
Each month, I will round up our recent song picks here on the blog. You can also keep track of all of the Songs of the Week on this Spotify playlist. These songs will all be relatively recent and cover a wide range of styles – the only criteria for a song to be chosen is that it is created by Australians and we think kids and families might love it as much as we do.
Here are our May Songs of the Week:
Listen to Your Mum by Riot Baby
We said: Miss 7’s favorite song. “If you want a little taste of CBGBs with your ABCDs, Riot Baby might be just your scene.”
Choc Chip Choo Choo Train by The Sticker Club
We said: The Sticker Club “have a rock ‘n’ roll pedigree and bring us back to 60s bubblegum pop with a twist for modern kids.”
Sleep Baby by Whistle & Trick
We said: ““Sleep Baby” is such a gentle lullaby, originally sung to Maddy by her dad, who is no stranger to crafting special songs (you’ve undoubtedly recognised his voice – Paul Kelly). “
Butterflies (Nervous)
We said: ““Butterflies – Nervous” is a perfect example of the very tuneful and thoughtful songs across the (All the Feels) album.”
